to several weeks can all enjoy the spectacular wilderness. World Heritage
areas are accessible to all. Many paths and shorter interpretative walks
are suitable for all abilities. For the more
fit enthusiast, Tasmania provides a unique and remote wilderness adventure.

Rock Climbing
Tasmania has mountains to suit all levels of rock climbing enthusiasts.
There are hundreds of areas suitable for rock climbing, making
the state a popular destination for climbers across the world.
Spectacular coastal cliffs provide an exceptional backdrop. Tasmania
has accredited programs for beginners and groups as well as remote
wilderness sites for the experienced climber.
Caving
Tasmania’s tranquil above ground vistas hide some dramatic underground
scenery. Located throughout Tasmania, limestone caves house spectacular
glow worm displays, subterranean streams, stunning Dolerite formations
and cathedral rooms. Both guided cave tours and wild caves are available
to explore.
Cycling
Tasmania is a good size for exploring by bicycle. There are plenty
of small country roads with light traffic. Bus support is available
for extended cycling tours and short mountain descents. Quality
bicycles are also available for rent for short or long trips.
Bird and Wildlife Watching
Tasmania is also a paradise for bird and wildlife: Tasmanian devils,
wombats, wallabies and kangaroos, quolls, echidnas, bandicoots,
cockatoos, kookaburras, platypus, penguins, sea lions, and whales There
are numerous wildlife parks and sanctuaries to visit to gain
a better understanding of the local fauna.
Horseback Riding
Short rides or up to week long horse trekking adventures are suitable
for all experience levels.
Golfing
Tasmania has over eighty golf courses ,
both private and public, all superbly situated. From the challenging
metropolitan 18 hole championship courses to the quieter 9 hole country
courses. They offer magnificent scenery, abundant bird life, and a
relaxed atmosphere.
4-Wheel Driving
4-wheel drive vehicle hire is available as well as all- terrain tour
expeditions. Four wheeler tours are also available in specific
areas. Tasmania has many remote areas that are accessible only by
4 wheel drives.
Skiing
There are
two minor ski resorts in Tasmania, suitable for beginners, where
equipment can be hired. Snowfalls are irregular but in good years
provide the opportunity for wilderness ski touring.
Rafting, Canoeing and Kayaking
For the ultimate experience the famous Franklin River offers its remote
and wild beauty for 5 - 7 or 10 Day trips. Canoeing and kayaking
is possible for
groups and individuals on flat or whitewater rivers. Sea kayaking
is a superb way to explore Tasmania’s coast. Tours vary from

Sailing
Tasmania is a challenging place for sailing. The famous Sydney-Hobart
Yacht Race arrives in Hobart around the 28 - 29 December each
year. Many yacht clubs have regular regattas and dinghy sailing
clubs. Hobart is located on the Derwent River, a sheltered waterway
for pleasurable sailing. Tasmania has a rich maritime history
and culture. Yacht charters and cruises are an excellent way
to explore the island.
Surfing
Tasmania has plenty of excellent surf beaches taking
advantage of the Southern Ocean swell.
Swimming and Beachcombing
Tasmania has 5400 km of coastline, much of which is pristine and allows
for relaxing beachcombing, swimming, and seashore exploration.
The North and the East coasts have many sheltered white sandy
beaches and coastal National Parks. It has a myriad of bays,
estuaries and coastal cliffs to discover.
Scuba Diving
There are some excellent diving opportunities and dive courses. Equipment
can be rented easily. Tasmania is famous for its cold-water diving
and kelp forests,
which shelter seahorse and crayfish. There are numerous and varied
sites available.
Fishing
From deep-sea trawling for tuna or marlin to fly fishing trout in the
highland streams or just taking the family to the pier to enjoy
local seafood, you’ll be hooked on our fishing. Tasmania
has an abundance of rivers, lakes, and streams that are well
stocked with trout ready for a fight.
